Introduction: The Advancements of a World in Conflict
The advancement of technology has brought positive change in the lives of people and ease of work, but have also brought death and destruction in the cases of World War 1, the Holocaust, and the French Revolution. In these instances, technology was ultimately used to kill more effectively rather than for the improvement of life. In the case of World War 1, the machine gun, the tank, and the submarine are all examples of the advancements of technology that caused more death than improvement. Another piece of new technology is the gas chamber mainly used in the Holocaust. The gas chamber not only caused more death than improvement, it exponentially increased the amount of deaths during that time period. The French Revolution included the guillotine which was a major advancement in technology because the French could kill thousands of people per day just by chopping of their heads with ease. The reasoning behind these advancements of these terror traces back to the conflict that these groups of people were facing at the time. There was a deep disdain or hatred towards an opposing group of people, which reflected in what they invented and improved upon.
